Tuning Out the Noise

There's a lot of noise in the world.

Some of it is good noise, some is bad, some just is. As with anything in life, you have to learn to pay attention to what matters, to what's important to you, to what you can use to make your life better.

The rest of the chatter, the noise, the din, the ruckus?

Tune it out.

If the noise doesn't make your life better, or if your participation in it does not make anyone else's life better, then why bother?

I see many good people who don't get to great simply because they got lost in the din along the way, in the lights and the chatter and the gossip. They failed to focus, and so they lost.

They failed to seize the opportunity in front of them because they were too busy looking at their neighbor's opportunities. They unintentionally squandered their own energy, like a schoolkid spending all her piggy bank money on something that sparkled but sure wasn't ever going to be a diamond.

Now, I'm not saying don't have fun.

We need more laughter in this world, not less. Everybody needs some jackassery.

But don't lose focus.

Don't forget that you've got goals—in the gym, in your work, in your life—and that if you want to reach them, you're going to have to let go of some stupid shit.

Success is the result of unyielding, unwavering, and obsessive commitment to the job at hand.

It's not just that you have to want it. You've got to want it really bad and be willing to stick with whatever you have to do to get it.

So, tune out the bullshit. And see what happens ...
