Life Outside of CrossFit? What?

There is life outside of the CrossFit universe.

There is. Honest. The CrossFit world is not all that exists.

How do I know this? Somebody at the gym told me

.If your life is anything like mine, you may have heard this news already from family and friends. They look at you with those big eyes, put their hands on your shoulders, and say: "Seriously. There is life outside of CrossFit. And we're going to get you the help you need."

(Oh, okay, maybe I made that last part up. Or not.)

Anyhow, my point is this: We get a little wound up, caught up, obsessed, crazed about, and wrapped up in our CrossFit world. This is the best and the worst part of CrossFit: our community is passionate. We're ready to holler, fume, vent, and type incredibly quickly and "with purpose" on our keyboards about our sport and our lifestyle.

And that's all good—and sometimes not so good.

We lose a bit of perspective and sabotage our own community-building efforts, often without realizing it. Kind of like getting that deadlift PR with a horribly rounded back. Yeah, you made it, but at a cost to be determined later.

So, the next time you find yourself short of breath, with veins popping out your neck and your heart racing and you're NOT in the middle of a workout?

Step away from the keyboard, take some deep breaths, and refocus.

Look out the window. There are people and animals and plants that have never heard of CrossFit. And most of them are doing okay.

Life will go on.

Or so I'll believe until somebody at the gym tells me differently.
