How To Grab Life By The Tail

You want to be noticed? Do something worth noticing.

Do something remarkable so that people have to stop and watch, or listen, or read. Halt them in their tracks. Shut their mouths. Make them stare. Make them talk about you.

Some of them will like you, praise you, love you: that's the fun part.

But be ready for the flipside.

Some people will dislike you or despise you for your success. And a whole bunch of others in this world won't care at all, or even notice.

And that's okay.

Nothing worthwhile was ever gained by making everyone happy.

Worthwhile efforts are born of pain and time.Harsh lessons taught again and again sear the truth into our brains. And that's good, because if it came easy, everybody would have it and you wouldn't want it.

Remarkable things take remarkable effort and sustained effort.

But worthwhile effort means chances ... and outcomes.

  • Sometimes you're going to soar

  • Sometimes that weight is going to come up like air

  • Sometimes the bar is going to plummet and teach you a lesson

  • Sometimes you make that box jump

  • Sometimes you end up with a bloody gash on your leg. And a scar.

Sometimes life is going to suck and hurt: that's the simple truth.

When that happens, you will have onlookers who cheer for your hurt and applaud at your pain. Vultures circle wounded animals; this is the way they get their sustenance. Accept that fact and then ignore them.

Work on healing yourself.

And you may even have some people who scream that you're irresponsible or offensive or dangerous in your unfettered pursuit of all this life offers.

So what. They're not you.

And if you let them change you? Then you're weaker than they are.

Be strong, and learn to enjoy your strength. You earned it. Don't let the naysayers steal it—or steal anything—from you.

Learn to unabashedly enjoy your strength and you will have this life by the tail.

Stop worrying about those who watch those who do.

Grab the tail.
