Making It Look Easy

If you're good, it's going to look easy. That's the bad news. When you get really good at something, after thousands of hours practicing, when finally the fruits of all that training and sacrificing are paying off, when you finally feel like you've achieved a skill level of which you can be proud, that's when people think it can't be that hard. This thing you do? It must be easy. You do it so quickly and seemingly without effort. It's so easy they can do it themselves – and they're damn sure they can do it better.Seemingly. Easy. Yeah. That's the sticking point. They don't know. Don't expect them to.Until they put in the thousands of hours, and sweat the buckets, and cry the tears, they will have NO clue what you have gone through. And you can't even really explain that to them. They just need to rub their own noses against that experience. And that's okay.Let them try. When someone tells you "I can do that" – encourage them! This is how the world improves, from folks trying. That's a good thing. And if someone is derisive? If they scoff at your accomplishment as "luck" or disparage it? It just means they're jealous. Don't sweat that one either. Not worth your time. Don't sink to their level. If everybody thinks they can do what you do (in the workout, in the gym, in your business or your life) pat yourself on the back: You're a success. You made hard work look easy.Smile and press on. There's more work ahead.
