Heading For Air
I refuse to wait for someone to save me.
I refuse to linger, hoping that someone else will take control.
I won't be one of those folks who stand in the back of the room, confused, as smoke fills the air and everyone starts to cough, wondering what is happening.
I'm heading for air.
How many people in this life do you know who are waiting to be saved?
By experts, by a new job, by their kids, by their partner?
I learned long ago that if I didn't go out and grab life, it wasn't going to come knocking at my door and give me a big present. In fact, presents only seem to come when you're so busy doing that you barely have time to unwrap anything.
My kids were watching "Lost" one night and I heard this speech. It was just a TV show, but it seems to apply to so much more:
"We have to stop waiting. We need to figure things out . . . If you don't want to come, then find another way to contribute. Because every man for himself is not going to work. If we can't live together, we're going to die alone."
Find a way to contribute. Now.
Don't wait for someone else to save you.
Head for air.
