Don't Let Darkness Grow

We feel dark. Depressed. Down. Whatever you want to call it.

We're just barely ourselves, or we're the lowest energy form of ourselves.

Dark thoughts, little action, waves slowly lapping the shore at low tide. The water ebbs and we can see the bones of our dreams, drying in the sun. We can seemingly no more rouse our spirits to reveille than we can use our fingers to pull the ocean to the dunes.

And we try to keep to ourselves, because who the heck wants to see the real and the ugly inside our heads?

This instinct, while noble, is 100% wrong. And of use to no one at all. Not even to you.

So don't do it. Don't stay silent.

Darkness grows if you let it.

Don't let it. Don't let darkness grow.

Don't let it cover your hands and all you do, or wish to do, or ever dream of doing.

Don't let it become the dark cave in which you curl up and let the world pass you by. The world always needed you far more than you knew, more than you imagined, more than you realized. If you were gone, you would be missed. Oh, how you would be missed.

Shine a light. It's the only way to fight the darkness.

If you don't have a light or if you can't find a light, borrow mine. That's what it's there for. I have enough. Trust me.

I can't tell what exactly the light is for you, but you'll know it when you see it. Amidst the backdrop of despair, it will glow. Slight at first, but then stronger. Grab it.

Ride it all the way out of the darkness.
