The Things We Wake Up To

Sleeping is blissful.

For hours every night, if we are lucky, we get to shake off our troubles and drift somewhere wonderful.

Or scary. Or confusing. Or troublesome. We don't get to choose.

Some of us don't sleep very much. Others sink and float away. But if we're reading this, we all woke up today, so we are all lucky in a very primal context.Yet, in those moments when you're opening your eyes and the world is a tad fuzzy and more like an obscure concept than a harsh reality, what exactly are you warm and purring for? And who exactly makes you eager to kick off the covers and start your day?

And what if you have no urge to start your day, but instead dread it with the ache of something you can't name but you feel it, oh God you feel it, why won't it ever go away, justmakeitgoaway.

How do you get through the day?

More importantly, this: no matter where you are right now—content, unhappy, somewhere in the middle—how can you change your life so that you bound from your slumber every day and are of supreme use to this world and extraordinarily blissfully happy?

What do you yearn to wake up to? And who do you long to wake up with?

And what steps are you taking to make your life into a waking dream?
