Grammar and the Inanity of Serving Rules

Clarity is the purpose of grammar.

There is a purpose to grammar. There are reasons for the rules.

And if there are reasons for the rules, then there are also reasons to:

  • Break them

  • Ignore them

  • Throw them out, at times.

It all depends on the purpose for which you aim. Or the purpose you aim for. People forget that.

Rules are made to serve our purposes. We are not made to serve rules.

This truth applies to so much more than grammar.
