The Unexpected Path to Safety

"Show yourself and you will be safe."

I read that somewhere and thought: "What? That's insane."  And then, after a moment: "Yes, of course."

How brilliant.

No need to hide. Toss your heart in the middle, toss yourself in the fire. "F**k you all. That's me." And thus shrinks the power of anyone else to truly hurt you.

Amazing to suddenly know this: I had it wrong, all these years.

Hiding is an investment without return, but vulnerability? Vulnerability is gold.

Who can hurt you if you own everything you are? Who can betray your secrets if you have no secrets?

Who can whisper your silent soul but you?

No one.

Fear is the hindrance, the drag on your flight, the unstowed anchor on your ship.

"Show yourself and you will be safe."

Yes. Exactly.

Why not fly?
