Killing the Teacher

A high-school English teacher of mine once told me of a Latin phrase that basically meant: "Kill the teacher."

It's not to be taken at face value.

What it means is, that if you have talent and are well-taught by someone, eventually you will outperform them – and that you should strive towards that goal. It's a natural thing to happen. You'll get good enough that one day, you'll be better than your teacher.

Everyone at CrossFit should be striving for that goal even if you think you have no chance of ever reaching it.

You're better than you realize at all of these things we practice. I point out your shortcomings because that's my job – to teach you. But you should really want to kill me and the rest of the coaches.

There's another Latin phrase ("aut disce aut discede") which means "Either learn or leave" – and that's true for CrossFit Watertown too. But we're all learning and nobody's leaving.
