Practice Some New Austerity

We can all see changes in our bodies from exercise.I think we all see changes in our minds and spirits, too. But here's the deal: It doesn't come easy and you can't get it on a part-time basis. If you want to see results, you need to commit more than 3 hours out of 168 for the week. That doesn't mean you have to spend 20 more hours in the gym working on your form but that you need to spend a lot more time away from the gym working on your life. You need 5 hours doing workouts and about 160 making good decisions for your body. (If you need it, take 3 hours to just do wrong – like a safety release valve.)

  • Eat right, sleep more. Look at everything you put in your body and decide if it's taking you closer to who you want to be or whether it's pushing you further away from your goal.

Decide not to be a loser when it comes to food.

  • You know what I mean. Losers eat crap. They shop the interior of the supermarket and they buy all sorts of stuff with ingredients they can't pronounce and chemicals that are going to kill them. Don't treat yourself like that.
  • Respect yourself and your body. It's the only one you have and it needs to carry you throughout your entire life. Make it strong enough to do the job.

Decide to be a winner.

  • Decide that life is more than existing.
  • Decide to be mentally strong.
  • Decide to set a goal and reach it. Then set another one. Never quit. Respect yourself enough to keep on fighting.

Thoreau once wrote: But the notes of the flute came home to his ears out of a different sphere from that he worked in, and suggested work for certain faculties which slumbered in him. They gently did away with the street, and the village, and the state in which he lived. A voice said to him, – Why do you stay here and live this mean moiling life, when a glorious existence is possible for you? Those same stars twinkle over other fields than these.– But how to come out of this condition and actually migrate thither? All that he could think of was to practise some new austerity, to let his mind descend into his body and redeem it, and treat himself with ever increasing respect.Treat yourself with ever increasing respect. Those are words to live by.
