Judgment Day

Would you judge me as a lifter on just one lift? Just one. Say, a press you saw, where I canted the bar and didn't get full lockout overhead. Could you tell how good a lifter I am off one lift? How about if someone told you about a lift I made? Described a poor snatch, or an ugly front squat where I dumped the bar? Could you make an accurate judgment of me as a lifter then?Or would you want to see me lift? Want to see me press and snatch and front squat -- repeatedly -- so you could see patterns and habits and what really was going on? So that you could see with your own eyes and decide for yourself? You'd want to do that in the gym. And so maybe you should do that too in real life. With people. And judgments you make about them as co-workers, friends, lovers, family members, and simply as human beings.Look. See with your own eyes. It's not enough to say, "Don't judge." We all judge. It's human nature. Just be sure you give people a fighting chance.
