Hunger
Everybody's got a hunger.
Some folks admit it.
Some don't.
Some even try to hide it.
Champions? Their hunger was bigger than everybody else's. They wanted it more, and they were willing to do all the work to earn it.
When I was a kid playing basketball, I had a coach who used to face us off in two lines —one vs. one—and throw the ball in the middle of the court. Whoever grabbed the ball first went back in line. The other kid had to run a lap. You learned really fast to get to that ball damn quick and do what you had to in order to grab it first. I got a lot of skinned knees from those drills. I also ran a lot of laps and had time to think about finding that hunger.
Maybe we should sort of do that with the barbell. And with life.
What you want is in the center of the room: how hard are you willing to go to get it?
Winners get back in line and get another chance to win. Losers get time to think about what they could have done better.
Get hungry.
Run fast.
Go hard.
Throw yourself on the line.
Grab exactly what you hunger for. Or get back in line and think about what you could have done better.
I'll be here rooting for you no matter what happens.
Now, go.
