If It Happened To You
When the results aren't favorable, few people want to accept personal responsibility.
Came in fifth on the workout? "Those guys are beasts. Born that way."
Lose a job? "My boss sucks. I got screwed."Break
up with a girlfriend? "She's crazy."
Slip on a sidewalk? Hurt yourself working out? Yeah, you know what comes after these accidents too: more finger pointing.
But why? Why the excuses? Why play the blame game?
Because it feels better.
More gratifying to your ego, easier to swallow. It wasn't your fault. You couldn't have stopped it. You didn't fail, somebody failed you.
Or it is your fault in some way. You failed. You could try harder. You could do better.
If it happened to you, then you were involved.
Even when it's something like your girlfriend cheating on you, or your boss deciding who gets laid off, or that deadlift slipping out of your hand. Somehow you were involved in what happened in your life.
If it happened to you, then you did it.
Suck it up, or pass it off: This decision point hits you repeatedly in life.
But how you react at these points determines the quality of your life. So choose carefully.
