Where You Look Is Where You'll Go

"Where you look is where you'll go."

I found myself saying that to my son one day, as he learned to ride a bicycle ... at the age of 14.

When your kid is unique, some things come on their own time table. One of my sons learned to ride a bike at 3. One son learned at 14. Neither is better than the other. They both just are.

Kids don't learn on our timeline; they learn on their timeline.

Adults are often like that too, although we try to pretend otherwise.

There is no set rule or time by which we all have to do anything, except get born and get dead.

Those are the two finite points of our lives. Everything betwixt is in flux. Always has been, always will be. We only fool ourselves into thinking otherwise.

But one thing is fairly certain: where you look is where you'll go, on a bike or in this life.

So pick your line well and stop riding your brakes. Fear is not your friend, but momentum is. The bumps will still be there, you just won't feel them as much. Concentrate on the delicious sensation of wind on your skin, and keep pedaling. Because, of course, movement is where we find ourselves again.
