Life Is Too Short for Brown Socks

My 18-year-old son came up to me in Costco the other day.

He had two sock collections in his hands, and he was trying to decide which one to select. One collection had three pairs of socks: brown, yellow, and white. The other had this wonderful mango color, and white and yellow socks.

I said, "You love that mango color. Buy those."

He smiled quizzically:  "How did you know I liked that color?" And then, with a more serious face, he said, "But the brown is probably more practical." (He's a good boy, trying to find his way to being a good man.)

"Life is short, too short to wear brown socks," I replied.

He bought the mango.
