Branding, Wearing Logos, and Getting Sweaty

Doing wall-balls in my garage, Summer of 2007. I didn't measure the height of that box. I just tried to hit near the ceiling. It was a few months before I would open the 250th CF affiliate, and a year before I would be hired by CrossFit, Inc. I didn't own anything that had the word "CrossFit" on it.

I was reading this good little article on the history of branding, and it led me to thinking about what we do in the gym. (Of course it did, you know this is how my brain works!)

So, let me ask you this:

Do you CrossFit? Or do you exercise? Or do you train? Does it matter if your workout has a name? Or is the name superfluous?

Are the words above the gym door or the name on your shirt important to you?

Heck, let's go further: do you wear clothing with names on it? Or do you usually wear clothing with small logos or no logos at all? (My kids are like this—they don't like to wear what they call "large pieces of company advertising" but maybe that's a Millennial/Gen Z attitude.)

Some folks like showing their tribal affiliation, and some don't.

Did you think about any of this before this moment? Or do you just like to get sweaty, get strong, and go home?

Or are you mix of all of the above?

There are no right or wrong answers. I've been all over the map on these questions in my lifetime. Just stuff to think about. Now let's have a good chuckle over a goofy photo of me back in my garage.
